Amherst College invites applications for the Postal and Print Services Specialist position.
The Postal and Print Services Specialist is a full-time, year-round position, starting at $20.
16 per hour - commensurate with experience.

The Postal and Print Services Specialist helps enable stellar and seamless service to the customers of our Postal and Print operations.
The outputs of this position aid in facilitating academic excellence, student belonging, operational excellence, and civic responsibility.
This role assists in preparing, processing, and completing printed and postal jobs following UPS, USPS, and Amherst College guidelines, and operates various bindery machines along with the Xante digital envelope press.
This position takes appropriate actions to support a diverse workforce and participates in the College's efforts to create a respectful, inclusive, and welcoming work environment.
Summary of
Responsibilities:
Postal Services and Mailing CenterSort and arrange mail at the post office (from USPS, Amazon, FedEx, UPS, etc) and by delivery route and buildingDelivery of mail to the appropriate campus locationsManage a large volume of mailings, including downloading addresses from the network and importing into specialized software, printing addresses directly onto the mail piece using a Bryce Ink Jet Printer; folding, inserting, tabbing, and metering of mail, allocating the charges to the correct general ledger account; prioritizing work so the time-sensitive mailings are completed quickly and accuratelyReview, proof and double check mailing jobs, paying attention to detail to ensure costly postage errors are avoidedManage specialized mailings for the Development office, matching contributor slips to personalized letters, ensuring 100% accuracy for the entire jobImplement USPS regulations for all types of discounted mail, ensuring that postage savings for the requesting department are obtained for all mailingsAssists customers with any and all questions/requests regarding mailings and UPS ratesAct as liaison with the US Post Office and implement new postal regulations as they become effectivePrint Services Support Operate all equipment in the mailing center, including the Bryce Ink Jet Printer, tabber, folders, strapper, meters, and tying machines, ensuring optimum performance on each; calling for service when problems arise and cannot be fixed in-house.
Export presort information into Excel to print merged letters and corresponding envelopes.
Export NCOA address changes and send to appropriate departments to update address lists for future useUpdate software when required (includes Satori - presort software as well as UPS software), ensuring that correct postal rates are used at all timesOrganize, maintain and update inventory of supplies in stockroom, including paper, envelopes, Xante toner supplies, printed stationery as well as specialized stock used for commencement and other special projects.
Order and unload inventory as it is delivered, rotating stock when neededConsult with customers as to appropriate stock for job and ordering it when neededMaintain inventory of mass mailing materials for Alumni, Development and Comptrollers, notifying when stock becomes low and reordering is necessaryKeep stock room neat and orderly, eliminating potential safety hazardsKeep an inventory in Excel of stock so overstocking does not occurAssist in the operation of the high volume copiers, collating, copying, booklet making, padding, cutting, dye-sublimation and vinyl application on clothing and products, etc.

Turn-around time in the department is usually same day or 24 hours (except during peak times of course-work)
Qualifications:
Required Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent Work ExperienceValid Driver's License0-1 years related experience in print production, mailroom/bindery operationMust adhere to Federal Postal Regulations; stay current with changes in Federal regulationsProficient in Microsoft Excel and Word, and the ability to learn new softwareStrong verbal and written communication skillsStrong customer service skillsStrong time management and organizational skills, ability to multi-task, prioritize and meet deadlinesDetail-orientedCommitment to or experience working with a diverse communityThe ability to adapt to changing circumstances and successfully handle operational changes is importantPreferred Familiarity with the Post Office and Campus Print & Mail software packages, including Google software suite, Notifii, and Print Shop ProPreferably 1-2 years related experience in print production, post office, mailroom/bindery operationAmherst College offers many opportunities for professional growth and development, continued learning, and career advancement.
